Call to Action: Women in STEM

Only 3% of skilled trade workers are women. In the top 5 trades, less than 6% are women. Within the main sectors of construction, technology, motive power, industry and service there are more than 150 careers to choose from.

After a little bit of research, I have found intriguing statistics about the involvement of women in the skilled trades.

Today, my objectives are certainly to:

- Address barriers impacting girls and young women in the Windsor-Essex community and beyond.

- Educate girls and young women on promising career opportunities in skilled trades, science, technology,   engineering, math and entrepreneurship.

- Engage the community in taking specific action to improve girls' and women's economic success.

To get the discussion started, share some of your past experiences when it comes to gender barriers, some statistics about the involvement of women and/or girls in the skilled trades, or simply your opinion regarding this matter.

Everyone has equal opportunity to live up to their potential, right? So why let "gender" be the determining factor?
